Joint Agreement Reached
Thanks are due to the TMC Board for their perseverance in this matter, and
especially to Charles Morganti for many hours invested with the City of Tyler
and the Parks and Recreation Department. This agreement essentially restores the
safety requiremennts practiced by TMC for many years at the site.
A new lease will be signed by TMC later this month. This new lease will result
in a significant reduction in the cost to TMC members for flying at the site.

was unable to attend because he was moving to a new house.
Those who worked appreciated Jack Hogan, who came the previous day with his
tractor and dug the surface down several inches for the foundation areas, which
permitted those listed above to finish the preparation in a couple of hours.

20 May 2005 :
May Membership Meeting
1)
Sam Snyder asked to address the membership on behalf of the AMA, regarding the
position of the AMA on club safety, an item of critical importance to all clubs.
Sam gave a list of seven safety guidelines used at virtually every AMA
sanctioned event for many years. Sam's comments were supported by Dr. Hector, a
long-time club and AMA member, who has participated on the TMC Board and AMA
committees for several years. Sam also reminded the members present that our
club has at least two AMA Member-Leader reps on our roster who are empowered by
the AMA to make sure the club is following AMA guidelines. These reps have the
power, and the responsibility, to have club members who intentionally violate
AMA or club rules, suspended temporarily or indefinitely from participating at
any AMA club event, nationwide. Sam urged the club to take any necessary action
to insure that all club members be aware of, and adhere to, safety guidelines.
He further pointed out that actions or even comments by any club member to the
contrary can place all members in jeapardy of not only AMA action, but legal
action in case of an accident, and asked the club to be sure that its rules and
guidelines are adequate and clear and all members are appropriately trained and
in agreement in this area.
2)
At the last membership meeting, in April, Gene Lafaille, a member, submitted a
request that the club redefine how the bylaws can be changed. After some club
discuusion, Mark Humphries had submitted a motion to have the club adopt the
suggested changes as part of the bylaws. The motion was seconded and the club
Secretary was asked to send a copy of the request to all club members who were
invited to send a straw vote (yes/no) in response to the motion, with a vote by
the members at the May meeting. After receiving feedback from the members, and
a response from the Board that its seven members agreed to the intent of the
request, but were unanimously agreed that the suggested procedure was not
acceptable, Gene addressed the club at the May meeting and asked Mark to
withdraw the motion, contingent on the club setting up a study group to review
and recommend a better procedure for changes to the bylaws. Gene apologized to
the members for any 'polarization' of the club members over his request, as this
was not his intent. Mark agreed to withdraw his motion and President Dwight
Thrasher asked for volunteers to form a study group to work on a more acceptable
procedure. A committee composed of volunteers
Mark Humphries,
Nolan Manziel,
Sam Patriacca,
Wayne Sutherland
and
Jerry Truell
was asked to present a
proposal at the next Board meeting for consideration. The committee was also
asked to review the present Field and Flying Guidelines with the intent of
clarifying any areas which they agree are not clearly stated. Their results on
this will also be submitted to the Board for review.

22 Apr 2005 :
BYLAWS CHANGES REQUESTED
1) Mark Humphries made a motion that all the TMC rules in the FIELD & FLYING
GUIDE be removed from club requirements as authorized by the bylaws. After
recieving a second to the motion, and heated discussion, the motion was defeated
by a vote of 11 for and 11 against.
2) Gene LaFaille made a request that major changes be made to the bylaws, in the
area of procedures to make changes. By procedures of the current bylaws, this
type of change requires a written request indicating the specific wording othe
changes, which Gene supplied to all members present. Since one of the changes
requested was that all members need to be notified of such change requests in
order that they might be present to vote, the members present agreed that the
Secretary should mail the requested changes to all club members and ask for
comments to be returned within 2 weeks. Gene requested that the comments should
be used to pass/fail his change request. However since the bylaws do not
presently have a provision for proxy votes, the bylaws change request voting
will be done at the next membership meeting.
Gene's detailed request is not included here since all members of record will
receive a copy my U.S. mail this month.

Change to Frequency Board Procedure
16 Mar 2004 :
New Contract With the City of Tyler
One firm requirement is that all flyers at Northside Park have a current AMA
license. This is because of the liability insurance which protects each flyer
and the City. It is the responsibility of each TMC member to assure that we
meet this requirement. Our first step will be to require the use of the
flyer's AMA card, or a copy of it, on the frequency board. No other form of ID
will be acceptable. It will be a
"NO AMA CARD, NO FLY"
requirement, without
exception.

He was born March 1, 1933 and served in the Army and had been a Tyler resident

member of the Tyler Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Deeanna Chase, of Tyler and sister, Lee Langley,
of Sherman.
If desired, memorials may be sent to the Humane Society of Smith County, 1823
CR386, Tyler, TX 75702, a favorite society of Mr. Chase.

Website Activity
After more than a year and a half of anxiety at the flying field over flying rules,
an agreeement has been reached between TMC and another group formed by ex-TMC members,
and others. It was brokered by AMA AVP Bill Lee and was signed by both groups on
Dec 30. It outlines a procedure for managing joint use of the site and a set of rules
specified by the Tyler Parks Department:
1) All pilots must be current members of the AMA and fly in
accordance with all applicable AMA, Tyler Parks and Recreation
and City of Tyler rules and regulations. The only exception to
this rule is for "Park Flyers" which are airplanes weighing two
pounds or less and are electrically powered.
2) Utilization of the frequency board is required at all times.
Place your current AMA card or a copy below the frequency number
of the tag removed, then replace the tag and retrieve your card
when finished. "Park Flyers" without an AMA card must provide
some sort of identification.
3) After landing pilots must not intentionally taxi into the
pit area.
4) Pilots must not intentionally fly outside of the Park
perimeter.
5) Engines must not be started or run under the shelter areas.
6) After take-off, subsequent flight is to be conducted east of
the line of sprinklers the west side of the runway.
The workday to complete the concret foundations for new, fourth, shelter and two
takeoff pads for use of the helicopters and jets was undertaken today.
Over 30 members were in attendance for this meeting. Jerry Truell submitted the
proposed new FIELD FLYING & OPERATIONS PROCEDURES which the study group composed
of Nolan Manziel, Mark Humphries, Dwayne Sutherland, Jerry Truell and Sam
Patricacca had submitted to the Board in August. It had been slightly modified
by the Board. A motion and second was made to replace the existing procedures
with this proposed set and it passed by a vote of 29 to 1 with 2 abstentions.
The workday was scheduled several weeks ago for the purpose of preparing for the
contractor to pour foundations for the new, fourth, shelter and two takeoff pads
for use of the helicopters and jets.
At the Member's meeting on this date, in an effort to find a way to let visiting
Pilots fly at the flying field, a motion was passed which gives any visiting
Pilot, who resides more than 50 miles from the field, permission from the club
to fly freely up to 3 times during any 2 month period. If they reside within the
50 mile radius, or want to fly more often, they will be asked to join the club.
Each flyer must show proof of having a current AMA membership and sign a
log at the field agreeing to follow all TMC rules, and must have a current TMC
member sponsor him while he flies.
Two very important items were on the agenda for the May membership meeting:
The workday was scheduled several weeks ago for the purpose of sprucing up the
field facilities for the series of upcoming club events starting with the Annual
Fun Fly next Saturday, 7 May.
Check out the new
HORSE SENSE
pages under the FUN STUFF button. Get a laugh or
two and a little bit of reality check!
At the April Membership meeting on 21 April, two changes were requested to the
TMC rules:
The Membership has selected the following members for the 2005 Board:
For Vice-President: Charles Kuenemann
For Secretary-Treasurer: Morris Bowen
For Board: Mark Humphries
& Dwayne Sutherland
The Nominating Committee, appointed by President Dwight Thrasher, and composed
of Sam Snyder, Kent Schreiber, James Beck and Jim Hall submitted candidates for
nomination, and others were nominated from the floor:
For Vice-President: Charles Kuenemann & Tims Frazier (incumbent)
For Secretary-Treasurer: Morris Bowen
For Board (2 of 4 positions open): Mark Humphries, Alan McEntarfer, Aaron Owens
& Dwayne Sutherland
Event completed as planned. Over 50 people in attendance. There were 13 pylon
planes present, 10 competed: James Beck, Dan Buikema, Virgil Gonzalez, Eddie
Gunnels, Gary Herman, Herbie Hobbs, Mark Humphries, Tom Hunt, Carol Krouse and
Jerry Truell.
Sam Snyder was invited to bring his Avrao Vulcan to show & tell at the SHARKS
Jet Rally on July 10 and was awarded a special TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT trophy
even though the Vulcan is not quite finished and was not flown. Congrats, Sam.
Check the Vulcan out [ here ],.
Despite a persistent 10 to 20 mph wind, most of the participants at this
annual event sponsored by the AquaNuts Squadron succeeded in getting in one or
more off-the-water flights. Approximately 30 planes were awaiting flights at the
event during the lunch break. Several out-of-town guests helped make this a
fun time for all.
Due to very limited positive response from the Club members and local clubs
who were surveyed about participating in this event, the Board has decided to
table this event. Consideration will be given to holding the JYW Event at
another time.
The members at the March Membership Meeting approved a change to the Field &
Flying Guide that requires the use of a flyer's AMA card on the frequency
board. This change is effective immediately. A list of members and their AMA
status has been placed on the bulletin board temporarily until all members are
advised of this change. Any member who cannot prove current membership in AMA
by this list, or by their AMA card, will be asked to refrain from flying until
they receive their new AMA card.
Thanks to the hard work of Jack Hogan and Jerry Truell, TMC has a new contract
with the City of Tyler to use Northside Park for the next 5 years followed by
an option to extend it by 5 years. The contract will be signed in the next few
days.
At 10AM this morning, a Memorial Service was held at Lloyd James Funeral Home
to celebrate the life of long-time TMC member, John Frank Chase. Mr. Chase
died Feb 23. The Rev. Sam DeVille officiated with the help of long-time
friends, Sam and Ann Snyder. Several TMC members gave testimonies of their
relationships with Mr. Chase.

Approximately 55 TMC Members and Family attended the yearl Christmas Party.
It was held at Heartland Ham and was enjoyed by all. Jim Hall was unable to
perform his magic show due to surgery on the day before.
I really appreciate the welcome for being the new president
of Tyler's Modelers Club. I fully intend on being the president
that the club can be proud of. I think that we have some of the
best people in our club that I have ever met. I would really
like to have some input from our fellow club members on how to
better our club. I intend on trying to have a few more events
in the upcoming year and would like a lot of club participation
and ideas from the members. I am here to serve the people of
the club and I am definitely open to any and all suggestions.
The membership unanimously approved a suggestion that Ann Greer be made an
Honorary Member of Tyler Modelers Club.
The membership elected the following slate of members to the 2004 Board at
the November meeting:
Vice Pres: Tims Frazier *
Sec-Treas: Bob Schreiber *
Board : Dan Buikema and James Talley
Dear Friends,
On Nov. 7 at 7:00 am, a 4 by-pass surgery was performed on my almost failing
heart. The surgeon did a superb job with Father's help. I was under for 36
hours before waking up. Unless one has been through it, they cannot imagine
the mind and body mix Then on Nov. 9 I went into the operating room again and
a pace-maker was installed. On the 10th it was matched with my heart beat.
My heart Dr. said in 27 years he has not seen a more perfect beat. Continue to
pray for a good and complete recovery, God is teaching me a number of things
about sickness, personal and for others. I am thankful for that. May He
richly bless you in your walk with Him.
Your Brother, Howard
Jack submitted his decision on Saturday, Nov 1, and Jerry his decision on
Sunday, Nov 2. Both cited personal reasons and the need for new members on
the Board. Remaining, un-opposed candidates for these offices are: Dwight
Thrasher (President), and Tims Frazier (VP). Elections will be held on
November 20, at the regular membership meeting. Two board positions will be
filled, with four candidates still in the running.
For un-disclosed personal reasons, Herbie Hobbs has asked that his name be
dropped from the list of nominees for the 2004 Board elections. Herbie has
served several years on the Board. Remaining candidates for 2 open Board
positions are: Dan Buikema, Alan McEntarfer, Aaron Owens and James Talley.
Club Fun Fly Director Bob Schreiber with help from Ann Greer and others,
put on a really great Fun Fly on Saturday, Oct 25. Fun Fly contests lasted
from 9:30AM until 2PM with a break for demo flying by Dr. Dave Hector
(precision pattern), Gary Herman (3D) and Sam Snyder (speed RC). During the
events, club members swapped their RC stuff. The weather cooperated with light
winds and no rain until the event was over.

North Park, location of the TMC Flying Field, is a City-of-Tyler Park and
falls under all the city regulations. It is up to TMC Members to insure that
these regulations & ordnances are followed:
No DRUGS or ALCOHOL are allowed at Tyler City Parks. In addition, the AMA
does not allow a pilot to fly under the influence of alcohol, or any drug
(including medications)
that impairs the pilot's flying ability.
One of the oldest and finest model flying sites, Torrey Pines, has been closed
to R/C glider (non-powered) flying by a private company given control of the
site by the City of San Diego Park. This was an AMA-approved site and affects
many flyers in the region.
This could have impact at many other flying sites across the country. For

A group of TMC club members were invited to demonstrate RC Flying to the
boys at the Timberline Camp in Lindale. Participants were Alan McEntarfer,
Herbie Hobbs, Virgil Gonzalez, Marty Maher, Travis Branscum Jr, Leonard
DeCarlo and James Talley. A group of about 60 boys watched in awe as the
combat team of up to three planes did ribbon cutting. Herbie cut the longest
ribbon. Later, Herbie and Leonard demonstrated aerobatic flying for the boys.
Virgil discovered his receiver was soaked in fuel and was unable to fly.
Travis and James provided moral support and Marty flew Alan's plane a couple
of times. The event lasted about an hour. This is the fourth year club
members have participated in this worthwhile event. Click
